When God Speaks To You In Tangible Ways

I’m much like the father mentioned in Mark 9:24 “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” This sums up my faith when it comes to stepping out in uncharted territory.

Or like Thomas the doubting disciple, I don’t want to believe unless I see “the nail marks on his hands. “ I know that God is not obliged to show signs and wonders. However from time to time He reveals himself to us practically in ways we can perceive with our five senses.

Briefly a little background info, I would have never thought to start a blog.  But over the course of about a year, I felt the persistent nudge to start writing about living with Hashimoto’s as a believer in Christ.  The Lord led me to come up with the name “Grace & Butterly.” through a series of events, tangible ways I could hear and see!

Confirmation #1

I was reading my new women’s bible study when my mind drifted. The mere thought of starting a blog was menacing. Doubt crept in. Lord knew I needed a nudge from above.

As I looked down at the cover of the book the butterfly drawing became eye-opening. I hadn’t noticed it before.

You see, the thyroid gland resembles a butterfly and early on I knew I wanted to incorporate this into the blog name.

As my eyes ran up the cover of the book, the word “grace” peered back at me.

I was like ahhh Lord, you are speaking to meeee, right now!

I knew in a soul piercing way that the Lord was shepherding my thoughts, giving me the name I needed to start this blog.

That was enough for me to know that I needed to move forward.

Confirmation #2

Shortly after I received the name, I went on a walk with a christian coworker.  I wanted to share with her what the Lord had shown me about moving forward with the blog.

As I began to spit the story out, just as I was saying the word butterfly, this little fellow below flew right in front of our faces!

We looked at each other and said “no way!”

The butterfly seemed to dance in front of us for a good minute. As we would take a step, it would fly a little— just a step in front of us then stop on the ground.  It seemed the Lord was confirming to me again that I was on the right path and to MOVE forward!

So why am I taking time today to write about how the I came up with the blog name? Because the Lord can use the mundane things in life as opportunities to build our faith!

Through these small confirmations, I was reminded in a tangible ways that:

  1. The Lord is intimate
  2. The Lord reveals Himself all around us (if we have spiritual eyes to see)
  3. The Lord cares about the small details of our lives
  4. The Lord is specific
  5. The Lord confirms things to us in order to draw us closer to Him

Do you struggle with idea that the Lord doesn’t care about small things? I know I do!

But, the truth is He does care about all the details of our lives.  Matthew 10:30 says “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” And Psalms 147:4 “ He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.”

The Lord is all about the small and BIG details.

I know it’s easy to dismiss God moments to happenstance, but God is ever-present and interactive. He longs to communicate with us and have a two-way relationship.

What a privilege!
